If I start with a Manhattan midwife, can I switch to an OB/GYN later?

Yes. If a complication develops, care moves to or is shared with an OB/GYN, and in many practices midwives and physicians work side by side, so the switch is smooth.

What can a certified nurse midwife in Manhattan do?

Under New York Education Law, midwifery covers the management of normal pregnancies, childbirth and postpartum care, primary preventive reproductive health care for essentially healthy women, and newborn evaluation. Midwives can also be certified by the state to prescribe medications.
