Editorial policy
Our health guides are written to help you understand a condition, a test or a decision well enough to have a better conversation with your own clinician. They are general information, not medical advice.
Who writes the guides
Guides are written and maintained by the Find Her Doctor editorial team. Each one carries the byline "Find Her Doctor editorial team" and the date it was last updated.
Where the medical information comes from
We base medical facts, numbers and recommendations on current guidance from established clinical and public health organizations, and we list the sources at the end of each guide. The sources we rely on most are:
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH), including MedlinePlus
- U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)
- American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)
- The Menopause Society
- American Society of Hematology (ASH)
- World Health Organization (WHO)
- New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) and other official New York agencies for state laws, programs and coverage
We do not invent statistics, studies, patient stories or testimonials. When guidance differs between organizations, we say so. When something depends on your history, we tell you to ask your clinician rather than guessing.
How guides are written and updated
- Each guide is drafted from the sources above, then checked for accuracy, plain language and consistency with our other guides.
- We review guides when major guidance changes, when New York laws or programs change, and when readers or clinicians point out an error.
- The "Updated" date shows the last time the content changed.
Clinical review
Some guides are reviewed by a licensed clinician. When that has happened, the guide says "Medically reviewed by" with the reviewer's name, credentials and the review date, and links to the reviewer's page. A reviewer approves one specific version. If we edit the guide afterwards, the review note is removed until a clinician reviews the new version. Guides without that note have not been clinically reviewed yet.
Expert answers
Some guides include short answers from clinicians listed in our directory, shown with their name, credentials and a link to their listing. Clinicians submit these through our Ask the expert program and authorize publication. We check each answer before it appears and may make light edits for length and clarity. Expert answers are not paid placements, and they reflect the clinician's general view, not advice for your situation.
Sponsorship and advertising
Find Her Doctor is supported by advertising and sponsorship. Sponsored panels are labeled as sponsored. Our anemia and hematology resources for clinicians are sponsored by Premier Hematology & Oncology. Sponsors do not write or approve our guides, and they do not change which providers are listed or how search results are ordered, except in clearly labeled featured placements. See About & data sources.
Report an error
If you think something in a guide is wrong, out of date or unclear, email listings@example.com with the page address and what you noticed. Clinicians are welcome to send corrections with a source. Please don't include personal health information.
Our guides do not replace an evaluation by a clinician who knows your history. If you think you have a medical emergency, call 911.
